Yesterday the Armenian Olympic team returned home. Armenians won 3
medals, one silver and two bronzes in London. In Beijing the Armenian
team had won 6 medals.
At the airport the highest official greeting the Armenian sportsmen
was the deputy minister of sport Khachik Asryan. The president of the
Olympic Committee and Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan has
left Armenia for a holiday and after his return he may organize a
reception for the Olympic sportsmen. The Armenian press notes though
that Tsarukyan personally greeted the Armenian sportsmen when they won
medals.
Has Tsarukyan lost his enthusiasm? On the eve of Beijing Armenia held
a presidential election. PAP supported Serzh Sargsyan then, hoping to
become the ruling party. London was preceded by a parliamentary
election where the PAP lost to the RPA. PAP refused to form a
coalition government with the RPA.
However, Tsarukyan did not leave the office of president of the
Olympic Committee and stayed in the Security Council. This is the
explanation when he sees off and greets Serzh Sargsyan during his
foreign visit.
