Armenia: Syrians Say `Thanks, but No Thanks' to Karabakh Idea
A little while back, your very own Tamada posted a piece about how
Armenia was hoping refugees from the ongoing violence in Syria might
be coaxed into moving to Nagorno-Karabakh. Well, it turns out that
Syrian-Armenians are saying `we'll take a rain-check' to that idea.
When Yerevan sent up the `send-them-to-Karabakh' trial balloon,
officials in Azerbaijan, which is struggling to regain the territory,
got a little purse-lipped. It turns out they should not have worried.
Separatist authorities in Karabakh report that no Syrian has expressed
a desire to relocate to the territory. `Nevertheless, we are ready, in
case we receive requests, to help accommodate our compatriots from
Syria,' said de-facto Karabakh government spokesman David Babayan.
