Azeri villagers set fire to Israeli, Armenian flags at Quds Day rally
Baku, 17 August: A rally has been held in the village of Nardaran
[near Baku] to commemorate Quds Day.
The rally was held on the village's Imam Huseyn Square, and was
presided over by Haci Atamali, the head of the village mosque.
He spoke about Quds Day and said that Israel and international Zionism
wanted to keep the Muslim world under control.
The chairman of the Nardaran village council of elders, Natiq Karimov,
criticized the [Azerbaijani] government's policy on the Karabakh
issue. He said the government's cooperation with Israel was
inappropriate. Karimov said that the liberation of Muslim lands
[reference to the Azerbaijani breakaway region of Nagornyy Karabakh]
lies through the liberation of Quds [Jerusalem].
Other speakers at the rally spoke about the importance of Quds Day.
After that, the rally participants read out a resolution and set fire
to Israeli and Armenian flags.
