SHOP PLANS A TOWERING DAY OF MUSIC
by MAEVE QUIGLEY ; DEMELZA de BRUCA
IT'S hard to believe that it's 19 years since Tower Records opened its
doors on Dublin's Wicklow Street.
And to mark the occasion, there's a big birthday bash at the store
with four bands starting at 3pm today.
Kicking off are The Bambir, a band currently based in Dublin and
hailing from Armenia.
Singer and songwriter Narek Barseghyan likes to call what they do
"Archive Rock" as it takes a little piece of everything from the
history of rock 'n' roll.
At 4pm it's the turn of Dublin act I'm You'r Vinyl featuring
singer/guitarist Dana Donnelly and producer/musician Ken McHugh.
With the release of their debut EP this September they will be taking
their music out of the rehearsal room and onto the live stage.
With catchy songs chronicling the joys of life and love, their
colourful warm sound is upbeat and melodic with plenty of twists and
turns sewn together using uplifting beats and cinematic sonic vistas.
At 5pm it's the turn of Roisin O, a lady who has been making waves
since the release of her debut single Here We Go.
Performing and writing since she left school, Roisin added musicians
Alan Tully (guitars and vocals), Brian Murphy (bass and vocals) and
Ruth O'Mahony Brady (keys and vocals) to her act. There's an album in
the offing for this talented 23-year old who is the sister of Danny
O'Reilly from The Coronas.
And she's also lucky enough to have Mary Black as a mum.
Great singing must be in the genes, so. Last but not least The Pale
will be launching their new album I Woke Up And I Was Gone at the
store at 6pm.
With songs written over a three-year period by theatrical frontman
Matthew Devereux while living in Prague, the band are very much still
a force to be reckoned with, as this album proves.
All in all it will be a day of fun and frolics and best of all it's free.
And make sure and buy some music when you're in there.
