YEREVAN.- Agriculture Ministry takes measures to prevent African swine
fever, first deputy minister of agriculture Grisha Baghiyan said in an
interview with Armenian News-NEWS.am.
`Armenia has experience in confronting African swine fever. We are
following the situation especially in forest areas (i.e. Tavush,
Syunik and Lori regions),' he added.
The African fever will hardly resume in Armenia, but if several cases
are recorded in neighboring Georgia, then it might reach our country.
At present there is no such threat, deputy minister said.
Previously Armenian News-NEWS.am issued the statement of the Food and
Agriculture Organization of the UN warning about the risk of African
swine fever resumption in Caucasus region. UN mentioned that the
endemic can spread in Russia and the Caucasus, including Armenia and
Georgia.
