Eduard Sharmazanov: `It is Turkey and Azerbaijan that hamper the
development of South Caucasus'
Yerevan/Mediamax/. It is Turkey and Azerbaijan that hamper the
development of South Caucasus.
Armenian National Assembly deputy spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov said
this today in response to the statement by Turkish Foreign Minister
Ahmed Davutoglu who said that Armenia's `occupation' of 20% of Azeri
territories should be ended as it greatly hampers the development of
the South Caucasus region, Mediamax reports.
Eduard Sharmazanov noted that Turkey has been keeping Armenia in
occupation for almost two decades. It pursues a policy of negation and
denies the international commitments it has undertaken. As for
Azerbaijan, this country ignores the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group
Co-Chair states, continuing the occupation of some Karabakhi
territories.
`If the Turkish official is really concerned about the development of
the South Caucasus, he would better urge upon his own country to
fulfill its international obligations, stop keeping the only closed
border in Europe closed and not interfere in the Karabakh conflict
settlement process,' Sharmazanov concluded.
