YEREVAN, AUGUST 24, ARMENPRESS: African swine plague at present is as
risky in Caucasus region and Armenia as in previous years. Armenpress
was informed about this from press secretary of Food safety inspection
of Armenian agricultural ministry Babken Pipoyan reverberating to the
UN report according to which African plague treats to Caucasus region.
"Special events against African plague disease are not implemented as
there are not such measures. During previous years we were able to
fight against that disease and if it is spread in our region,
particularly in Armenia than we had an experience of high level to
confront it. The plague is not spread anywhere at present and there is
not need for panic" mentioned Pipoyan. Plague appeared in Caucasus in
2007 and before that the disease has been characterized for Africa
continent and Italian Sardinia Island. Today it has endemic nature in
some parts of Russia Georgia and Armenia. African swine plague is not
dangerous for people but it is greatly dangerous for pigs. UN had
spread warning statement according to which African swine plague has
spread and reached the borders of Caucasus and treats its neighbor
districts.
