A special expert group should be formed in Armenia to study all pros
and cons of joining EurAsian Union, political expert, Levon Shirinyan,
said at today's press-conference.
He said that at present Armenia has to attentively watch processes on
formation of EurAsian Union and go on cooperating with the West. He
also added that Armenia must not refuse the policy of complementarity,
as Russia does not need backward states in the EurAsian Union, one of
which is Armenia at present. "We can use a complicated situation in
the Middle East, where Armenia and Syria are the footholds for Russia,
and get certain dividends from that", - he said.
He said that Armenia may use the pro-Western orientation of Georgia and
Azerbaijan for the final rapprochement with Russia. He also thinks that
further enhancing of the Armenian-Russian relations within the frames
of the EurAsian Union will create obstacles on the way of deepening of
the Russian-Turkish relations. "It is very much important for Yerevan,
as the Russian-Turkish rapprochement may happen at the expense of
interests of the Armenian party, just the same way as it happened at
the beginning of the XX century", - he said.
