The parties to the Karabakh conflict have marked the tendencies of
understanding, Federation Council of Russia Chairwoman Valentina
Matviyenko said in an interview with Azerbaijani Trend agency.
"We believe that it can be solved only through political and democratic
means. There is no other solution ... We believe that it is necessary
to continue negotiations and dialogue, but the main thing in this
negotiation process, in this dialogue is to restore confidence,"
Trend quotes Matviyenko.
Matviyenko believes that the Karabakh issue is very sensitive for
both sides [Armenia and Azerbaijan], however, it must be settled as
it seriously affects regional security.
In addition, Russia's approach to the peace process is well known as
it is one of the Minsk Group mediators. Russia will continue efforts
for peaceful resolution of the conflict, she added.
