Field training of the anti-aircraft subdivisions of the Russian
military base in Armenia is over. The training included special
tactical training exercises and tactical and qualification firing,
the press-service of the South Military District reports. Over 200
people and nearly 50 units of military hardware were involved in the
exercises, including Strela- 10" Air Defence Missile System, Shilka"
lightly armored, self-propelled, radar guided anti- aircraft weapon
system (SPAAG), IGLA man-portable infrared homing surface-to-air
missile (SAM),
The Russian 102nd Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia, is part of the
Transcaucasian Group of Forces. The military base is part of a joint
air defense system of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS),
which was deployed in Armenia in 1995. There are nearly 5,000 Russian
soldiers, MiG-29s and S-300 air defense systems in the base.
