EXPERT: ARMENIA MUST MAKE THE BEST OF THE OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY ITS COOPERATION WITH THE EU

Armenia must make the best of the opportunities offered by its
cooperation with the European Union, Gayane Novikova, Founder and
Director of Spectrum Center for Strategic Analysis, Fellow in the Near
Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department, Harvard University
(Cambridge, MA), said during the Regional Security Dynamics in the
South Caucasus international forum on Thursday.
She said that today Armenia is facing a choice: on the one hand,
the country is offered membership in structures dominated by
Russia - the Eurasian Union and the Customs Union, on the other,
it is negotiating with the EU on the free trade area and other
preferences. But the choice is not very big, so, Armenia must make
the best of the opportunities offered by its cooperation with the
Euro-Atlantic structures.
In case of NATO, according to Novikova, there are certain restrictions,
but the contacts with the EU help Armenia to deepen its reforms -
something everybody is interested in - at least in word.
