Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his Turkmen counterpart
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow held talks on Thursday and decided in favor
of organizing an Armenian-Turkmen business forum in Turkmenistan
next year.
At a meeting with journalists, the Armenian leader noted that the
business forum is expected to facilitate the development of bilateral
economic relations.
"I am sure the forum will give impetus to the development of our
relations. We have paid great attention to economic issues and talked
about how we can develop our relations during coming years. We have
stressed greater potential for developing bilateral relations,"
President Serzh Sargsyan said.
Armenia and Turkmenistan have cooperation agreements in a number of
fields, and the Armenian leader considers them highly important for
the development of Armenian and Turkmen economies. He singles out an
agreement on air communication.
"The agreement is of high importance for tourism development and
exchange of students," President Serzh Sargsyan said.
The Armenian and Turkmen leaders also discussed regional problems
and the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.
"We have stated Armenia's position: the problem must be resolved
in a peaceful way, on the basis of international law," the Armenian
president said.
Mr Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow noted that the talk with his Armenian
counterpart proved fruitful.
"We have discussed trade and economic issues, as well as cooperation
in transport, communication and agricultural sectors. We propose
organizing a large-scale Armenian-Turkmen business forum," he said.
Days of Armenia will be organized in Turkmenistan in 2013.
