STEPANAKERT AIRPORT WILL SERVE A NUMBER OF AIRLINES

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 29, ARMENPRESS. A number of airlines want to organize
flights in Stepanaker Airport. In a conversation with "Armenpress"
the Head of Civil Aviation Department of the Government of the Nagorno
Karabakh Republic Dmitri Atbashyan stated this. In addition he said
that he cannot mention the names of the aforesaid airlines.
Among other things Atbashyan stated: "As you know, the airport is
already being exploited, but the flights will launch after we earn
several equipments. Presently we do not possess antiicing system to
keep the field and road clean." He also added that they have already
signed agreements to buy them.
According to him in the beginning Stepanakert Airport will perform
flights to Yerevan alone. Notwithstanding he did not exclude that in
future they will initiate international flights as well.
Stepanakert Airport is 10 km away from Stepanakert. It was built in
1974 and generally used to receive flights from Yerevan and Baku.
During Nagorno Karabakh War the airport served to the military
purposes.
