YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS: The second regional summit of
European people's party and Eastern Partnership Leaders took place in
Yerevan on November 30. RPA Chairman, Armenian President Serzh
Sargsyan, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, Moldovan Prime
Minister Vlad Filat, EPP President Wilfried Martens and European
Commission President Manuel Barroso partook at the summit.
Armenpress reports that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan welcomed all
the presents and noted that the last year membership of three Armenian
parties in EPP was a great event. `One of the core goals of European
integration is to promote the communication among our people,
societies and individuals and the political parties are one of the
main parts of the society. Interaction of parties has an important
role in spreading European political culture and European values. We
estimate the role of EPP in the consolidation of European identity and
in the deepening of cooperation with EU member countries' Serzh
Sargsyan said, adding that it also gave an opportunity `to be more
hearable' in international and interparliamentary institutions.
Serzh Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to EPP President Wilfried
Martens and European Commission President Manuel Barroso.
Armenian President noted that being a family of Christian democratic
parties EPP cannot tolerate the violation of democratic freedom,
xenophobia, bellicose rhetoric and threats of force use.
`This speech touches the most pure pages of our common history. We
cannot but be bothered by the fact that even in case of being a member
of EU Turkey remains to be a `good partner' in Armenian blockade
region. We are sure that the last closed border of Europe should be
