ARCHITECT: NEW CONSTRUCTION ARE NOT INTERESTING

Today at the meeting with the journalists the head of the Union of
Armenian Architects Mkrtich Minasyan touched upon the problems of the
Armenian major and minor cities and the city construction and noted
that the issue of preserving the image of Armenia ancient cities has
always been actual. In some cities those tendencies were visible.
However, there were some cities, like, for example, Ashtarak, Gyumri,
Goris which were not allowed to touch. However, "recently those cities
are being destructed as well."
Particularly, touching upon the architectural style of the Ejmiatsin
city he noted that nothing has been preserved from the city.
"Most of the cities of Gyumri, which had been damaged very little
during the earthquake and just needed to be reconstructed, have not
been reconstructed till now," the architect said and added that the
new constructions distort the general image of the city. Only Goris
and Ashtarak have remained untouched.
Mkrtich Minasyan believes that the foreigners are not interested in
newly constructed buildings.
