The second batch of the buses donated by the Chinese government was
to be put into exploitation from November, but the new buses are not
operating yet.
Speaking to Tert.am, Mushegh Burnusuzyan, specialist at Yerevan
Municipality's Transport Department, said the reason of delay is the
lack of drivers.
"We have given an announcement and are gathering drivers. Ten-fifteen
people are calling us every day but the vacancies are not being
filled," the specialist said, adding that the buses are in the Ikarus
park in Jrvezh.
Asked whether it appears that working as drivers is not so beneficial,
Burnusuzyan agreed, saying that the bus companies are working with
losses.
The official said the profitability analyses of the routes are being
carried out by the municipality's specialists who sit near drivers
on different days to follow the passenger flow.
The first batch of Chinese buses imported to Armenia contained
249 buses.
