SACRAMENTO-On Monday, December 3 California's new leadership took
office. With 39 new Assembly Members and 1 new Senator being sworn
in, this new group of elected officials may remain in Sacramento
until 2024. As the new and the old took their oath, ANCA-Western
Region activists were there to congratulate them and educate them
on the issues concerning the growing Armenian-American Community
in California.
ANCA-WR Board Co-Chair Nora Hovsepian, Board member Zareh Sinanyan,
and local San Francisco activist, Arshak Kerelian traveled to
Sacramento to take the time to meet with legislators on their first
day in Sacramento, "The Capitol was swarming with people as various
groups came to participate in the inaugural ceremonies," said Western
Region Co-Chair, Nora Hovsepian, "it was very rewarding to meet with
so many legislators and see how energized they were to take on the
new challenges the State faces and to see their enthusiasm to work
closely with the Armenian-American community through the ANCA-WR."
Among those that the ANCA-WR team met with were Assembly Members Adrin
Nazarian, Scott Wilk, Edwin Chau, Chris Holden, Ian Calderon, Richard
Bloom, Cristina Garcia, and Reggie Jones-Sawyer. The Western Region
team is encouraged to see that California is off to a good start. The
ANCA-WR has confidence that the state legislature will be able to
face new challenges with comprehensive and effective methods and will
proudly represent the Armenian-American community in California.
The Armenian National Committee of America-Western Region is the
largest and most influential Armenian American grassroots advocacy
organization in the Western United States. Working in coordination
with a network of offices, chapters, and supporters throughout the
Western United States and affiliated organizations around the country,
the ANCA-WR advances the concerns of the Armenian American community
on a broad range of issues.
