MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - In recent times Armenia has been
demonstrating a vivid interest in Eurasian integration projects,
BelTA learnt from political analyst, head of the research and analysis
organization "Integration and Development" Aram Safaryan (Armenia).
Aram Safaryan is taking part in the seventh annual Forum of European
and Asian Media (FEAM) held in Minsk.
According to him, the year 2013 will become in Armenia "the year of
active discussion and search for its place". Aram Safaryan named three
possible integration options for Armenia: joining the EU, making part
of the Middle East or joining the Eurasian integration. The last option
will be most acceptable, if it "contributes to finding a balance of
interests of all the countries of South Caucasus", the expert said.
"Now the political elite of Armenia wants to understand what material
and immaterial benefits it can get from Eurasian integration. It is
important that not only politicians, but also businessmen and the
public express their views," Aram Safaryan said.
He noted that he is going to write a series of analytical essays
about Eurasian integration, "to help people better understand the
processes that are going on in the Eurasian space".
The seventh annual Forum of European and Asian Media (FEAM) titled
Integration Processes in the Post-Soviet Space and New Media is taking
place in Minsk on 9-12 December. Partaking in the event are more than
200 heads of the leading media outlets from the CIS, Baltic states
and Georgia.
Eurasian integration is the FEAM 2012 major theme. The event includes
debates among journalists, political figures, parliamentarians and
media experts on the prospects of integration projects, cooperation
between mass media and the society as well as the structure and
performance of new media in the post-Soviet space.
The first Forum of CIS and Baltic Mass Media was held on the initiative
of RIA Novosti in Moscow in December 2006. In 2009 it acquired its
present name - the Forum of European and Asian Media. The two previous
forums were held in Kyiv and Astana in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
