An exhibition titled `When the Book Finds the Artist' opened at
TumanyanMuseum today. The exhibition is a joint project of the five
large cultural establishments - the Tumanyan Museum, the National Art
Gallery of Armenia, the Charents House-Museum, the Armenian National
Library and the Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition concludes the
events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing.
President Serzh Sargsyan attended the solemn opening ceremony.
A number of events organized in Armenia and throughout the world
presented the Armenian book with its 500-year-old traditions.
The first part of the exhibition is dedicated to the periodic press
and illustrations of the literary works from 1880 to 1910. Works by
Gevorg Bashinjaghyan, Vardges Surenyants, Alexander Tsaturyan and
Yeghishe Tadevosyan are on display. In 1920 the decoration of Armenian
books is connected with the name of Charents, who then headed the
Literature Department of State Publishing House of Armenia.
The exhibition `When the Book Finds the Artist' marks the end of the
events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing, but
Yerevan will hold the title of World Book Capital 2012 until April
2013.
