According to Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, his relative and leader of
Prosperous Armenia Party Gagik Tsarukyan boycotted the elections. Of
course, neither Tsarukyan, nor Abrahamyan explained who or what is
boycotted. Perhaps, Gagik Tsarukyan will call his 500 thousand voters
not to vote. Will he give his voters 10 thousand drams each for them
to stay at home on the elections day?
This issue may be urgent for the ruling party. The silence of
Prosperous Armenia and the Armenian National Congress also proves that
this is possible. Neither Vartan Oskanian, nor Levon Ter-Petrosyan
announced their intentions, which means the opposition launched the
plan B.
Plan A was endorsement of Gagik Tsarukyan's candidacy by Kocharyan,
which would allow the Congress to "tear off" the PAP from the
government and announce that the Congress has its merit in the 30%
which Tsarukyan would surely receive. However, Tsarukyan "boycotted",
and plan A failed.
Most probably, Plan B supposes Vartan Oskanian's nomination and his
endorsement by the Congress. Levon Zurabyan and Vartan Oskanian may
have discussed this plan during their famous conversation in the cafe.
This may be the worst scenario for the government so as soon as the
plan was launched, the recording of the talk was published.
Apparently, the aim was to discredit Oskanian and Zurabyan and rule
out their alliance.
This scenario is still possible, and no one can exclude the possibility
of Oskanian's nomination on the platform of the Armenian National
Congress, especially if the ARF and even Raffi Hovannisian join
them. The government will do everything not to allow this to happen. It
will prefer Ter-Petrosyan's nomination.
But for this case, there is a plan B, which supposes total boycott
of the election by the PAP, Congress and ARFD. So, it is possible
to thwart the elections and make it clear that the opposition does
not want to play Serzh Sargsyan's games because any participation in
the elections supposes being part of a game dictated by the office
of the president.
The Armenian opposition which criticizes the authorities does
not undertake political steps which can stop the policies of the
government or put it on the right track. The opposition is looking
for someone who will assume the hard work. In the meantime, a good
political step could be the breakdown of the electoral system which
Serzh Sargsyan calls "almost ideal".
