OWNER OF ARMENIAN ARMAVIA REJECTS ALLEGED DEBT FOR SUKHOI SUPERJET 100
YEREVAN, December 19. /ARKA/. Owner of Armenian Armavia air company
Mikhail Baghdasarov rejected allegations of debt to Sukhoi Civil
Aircraft cjsc for Sukhoi SuperJet 100, Novosti-Armenia agency reports
referring to RIA Novosti.
"The aircraft cost 20 million dollars, we paid 16 million straight
away, there were 4 million remaining, but we gave it (the jet -
editorial) back later. Hence, we owe nothing for maintenance,
they consider we owe them a million so that they can exonerate it,"
Baghdasarov told journalists. He also added that it is Sukhoi Civil
Aircraft company who should exonerate the superjet.
In August Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company said that Armavia had still to
pay some 4 million dollars for the first aircraft. It also said that
Armavia could not give the jet back as it had an encumbrance within a
bank: if Armavia refuses to have the jet, then it should exonerate it.
Baghdasarov pointed out that if Sukhoi Civil Aircraft had a buyer in
mind for the jet, then the company would have exonerated it themselves
since long ago. The company fails to sell it, he said.
"The fact is that the next jets have been much better in quality than
this first one," Baghdasarov added.
According to Baghdasarov, Armavia suffered aircraft downtime losses
for technical reasons, that is why the company refused to take the
two planes on order.
Baghdasarov also reminded that SSJ-100 is not operated by the company
anymore and that it is Sukhoi Civil Aircraft who has the jet. He also
said that he is not going to take the planes.
Armavia national air company was founded in 1996. In 2005, Baghdasarov
who was a major businessman and president of MIKA Limited became full
owner of Armavia.
Today Armavia is operating over 100 flights a week in more than 40
directions to some 20 countries. -0--
