YEREVAN. - Corruption is a systemic problem in Armenia, and therefore
a systemic fight must be waged against corruption, opposition Heritage
Party Vice-Chairman Armen Martirosyan stated during a press conference
on Thursday, and he underscored the need for a punishment mechanism.
In his turn, Heritage member Styopa Safaryan added that corruption is
not only a systemic problem in Armenia but, also, it is the system
itself. "Those standing atop the system are very well aware of the
created situation," he noted.
At the same time Safaryan stated that combating corruption in the
country means loss of power for the authorities, and therefore, as per
the opposition politician, the present-day fight against corruption
is futile.
