BIRTH RATE, NUMBER OF MARRIAGES DOWN IN ARMENIA, DIVORCE RATE UP - STATISTICS

Some 30,906 births have been registered in Armenia during the nine
months of the running year, which is 3% less as compared with the
same span of the past year.
The figure made 31,854 last year, Karine Kuyumjyan, head of population
census and demography department at the Armenia's National Statistical
Service said.
She stressed that the mortality rate has also reduced, registering
four cases per capita.
During the nine months of the running year 13,828 marriages have
been registered. As compared with the same span of the past year the
number of marriages has reduced, instead the number of divorces has
grown by 3.1%.
The birth rate in the republic was particularly high in Yerevan,
Kotayk. In Tavush and Lori provinces the indices were lower from
the average.
The highest divorce rate has been registered in Yerevan and Lori
province.
