SRC Chairman an oligarch?
In parallel with his numerous businesses, one of the `leading
Armenian' oligarchs - Gagik Khachatrian also does greenhouse business.
`Zhamanak' newspaper reports that Gagik Khachatrian, who is the
Chairman of Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC), has owned
greenhouses of a total area of 8-9 thousand square meters in Yeghvard
and Nor Geghi communities for 7-8 years already. Tomatoes, cucumbers
and peppers are grown in his greenhouses.
By the way, the `non-oligarch' farmers owning greenhouses have
constantly complained about cheap vegetables imported from Turkey. The
customs authorities of SRC headed by the same Gagik Khachatrian clear
the imported vegetables at `water price' or do not clear them at all.
As a result, cheap and low-quality vegetables from Turkey flood the
Armenian market, leaving no room for domestic producers.
