Christmas tree prices soar in Armenia - newspaper

YEREVAN. - Along with many other products in Armenia, fir prices
likewise have increased in the country, Haykakan Zhamanak daily
reports.
`This refers to the artificial fir [that is used as Christmas trees].
Those that sell them told us that the prices have soared by
3,000-5,000 drams [approx. $7.37-$12.29] as compared with the year
past. The fir prices ranged from 3,000 to 70,000 [drams; approx.
$7.37-$172]. Also, a seller said the sales have dropped substantially,
by around 20 percent, as compared with last year. In his words, the
sales usually increase after December 20.
Incidentally, natural firs were not sold [at the given location]. They
were saying: Otherwise, `the KGB shows up immediately' asking where
[these natural firs are from],' Haykakan Zhamanak writes.
