10:07, 25 December, 2012
YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. The highest price of the parrots
exported from Armenia is USD 3000, including "Kakadu" and "Ara"
parrots. In a conversation with "Armenpress" the Chairman of "Armenian
Association of Birds Breeders and Owners" public organization Bagrat
Harutyunyan stated that about 50 individuals have a serious collection
of exotic birds only in Yerevan. For the majority of them selling
is not a kind of business, but a financial source for maintaining
the collection.
Among other things Bagrat Hautyunyan noted that there are certain
difficulties regarding legal import of the exotic birds, as a number
of procedures have not been clarified yet. No quarantine conditions
have been developed and because of this fact illegal import grows.
Besides this in accordance with the Convention on International Trade
in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regarding
the export of exotic birds a document about the bird's origin is
necessary. The expert stated: "The majority of birds in Armenia have
"illegal" origin or are left from the Soviet period and they lack
all necessary documents, which is an obstacle for the development of
aviculture in the Republic of Armenia."
