ARTHUR ABRAHAM: IT WAS A BIG HONOR TO MAINTAIN WORLD CHAMPION'S TITLE

German-Armenian professional boxing champion Arthur Abraham, who is
now in Armenia, met reporters on Wednesday to speak of his future
plans and achievements of the past year.
"I am very happy to be in Armenia. I became a super middleweight
champion on August 25 and protected the title on December 15. It was
a big honor to me. You are always happy when you are the best."
"Which battle was the most difficult: the one with Stiglitz or the
one with Baudlan?"
"It was more difficult with Stiglitz because he was stronger;
his tactics is on a higher level. If someone is a world champion,
he cannot be underestimated. He has proven, throughout his career,
that he is a good boxer.
Buadlan too, had a heavy weight of blow but I won thanks to my
experience. He was tired at the end and unable to hit a blow ..."
"Hasn't Stiglitz called for a revanche battle?"
"We have a contract with Stiglitz; there will, very probably, be a
revanche battle. We have that contract. If our promoters reach an
agreement, the battle will take place in March."
"What plans do you have in Armenia."
"That's my number one problem: a revanche battle is taking place
in March. I am going to celebrate New Year in Armenia in a couple
of days. And I wish to relax. Things are harder in Germany; the
situation is more practical there. But it's different here; I am
trying to relax."
"What would you say about professional boxing in Armenia?"
"We have good boxers in Armenia, but it is not enough. One person
alone cannot develop all that. Nothing will come out of without TV
companies. Professional boxing has developed in Armenia to a certain
extent, but we cannot be said to have a professional ring. The
infrastructure is not developed yet. That has to do with very large
sums. It's not up to one person to sponsor all that. The Universum
Club, for example, closed in Germany because its contract with the CDF
TV had expired. With no payment from a TV channel, the company cannot
pay boxers. My company has concluded an agreement with the AFD TV,
which is to pay ~@51 in three years."
"Who do think are Armenia's best 2012 sportsmen?"
"I can name only one; Arsen Julfalakyan is the top sportsman of the
year. But I cannot talk about the rest."
"You have once expressed a desire to fight with Kelly Pavlik..."
"In 2013, if his promoter agrees. I will fight with Pavlik in either
Germany or the US."
"Can you name the top three boxers?"
"Floyd Mayweather, who has won all his 46 battles, is the best boxer.
I will also name Klichko Jr. Well, Markes? I don't think he is among
the best. Mayweather has knocked Markes out. Yes, Markes knocked out
Pacquiao, but he was no longer the same Pacquiao ..."
"Is there a boxer you would like to fight with?"
"There is a desire for a revanche battle, but I will not give specific
names."
"What dreams do you have for the New Year?"
"I don't have a dream. I would like the coming year to be as good as
the previous one."
"What's the reason the European boxers do not manage to fight well
in the United States?"
"That's due to the jet lag. The time difference between Europe and
America is 12 hours. The organism is used to sleeping during the
hours you have to fight. That's the main reason. But I also agree to
the idea that if one wishes to become a legend, one has to 'seize'
all the continents."
"How long are you planning to remain in boxing?"
"I will fight for three more years. I will not manage to engage in
a coaching activity as it is among the world's hardest jobs. A coach
has to think about 10-15 people. I remember my coach, and to be frank,
I feel sick at heart. He spends 10-11 months abroad."
"Do you wish to found a boxing school in Armenia? At what stage is
the plan?"
"We have already purchased the premises. And we are expanding the
territories. That's the main information I can give now. Sincerely
speaking, I will be more serious about that after I quit boxing."
