ARMENIA TO EXPORT SHEEP TO IRAQ
YEREVAN, December 27. /ARKA/. Armenia intends to export sheep to Iraq,
Armenian minister of agriculture Sergo Karapetyan told journalists
Wednesday.
Earlier mass media reported that Iran is not importing sheep from
Armenia due to devaluing rial. Efforts are made to continue sheep
exports to Iran, the minister said.
Currently negotiations are under way to arrange exports of sheep and
mutton to Iraq via Iran, Karapetyan said.
The minister also informed that exports to Iran dropped from 172,000
sheep head in 2011 to 48,000 in 2012.
In general, exports promoted increasing sheep and goat production by
some 57,700 head by January 1, 2012.
According to the ministry of agriculture, there are currently some
590,200 head of cattle, 598,000 head of sheep and goats and 108,000
pigs in the country. -0--
