The Armenian parliament made alterations and amendments to the law
"On safety of food products" and Administrative Code in the second
and final reading, Tuesday.
As Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said, adoption of
the package of draft laws submitted by the government is necessary to
bring the national legislation in line with the European standards. In
particular, alterations provide for introduction of the machinery to
control the food products containing radioactive and bioactive elements
produced in Armenia and imported in the market for the first time. In
addition, the draft law defines the rights and duties of inspectors.
As for the GMO content of the product, if it exceeds 0.9%, it must
be indicated on the label. The authorized body is to register goods
containing radioactive and GMOs in the market and demand the necessary
information form producers.
