YEREVAN.- The plurality voting system is a major obstacle to fair
elections, said MP from ARF Dashnaktsutyun Armen Rustamyan.
Armenia's parliamentary opposition Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun
parties, and the non-parliamentary opposition bloc Armenian National
Congress held a rally near the Parliament on Tuesday.
"The National Assembly will start debates on completely proportional
election system in Armenia," Rustamyan said addressing the
demonstrators.
"The plurality voting system is a major obstacle, we will try to put
the initiative to the vote for the last time," he emphasized.
According to him, the shifting to completely proportional election
system is the first step to make society trust the authorities. "The
authorities are simply afraid of losing power," he stressed.
