SUPREME SPIRITUAL COUNCIL ISSUES STATEMENT ON ARMENIAN CHURCH COLLAPSE IN TBILISI

ETCHMIADZIN. - A Supreme Spiritual Council convened a meeting on
Wednesday at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. The collapse of Surb
Nshan Armenian Church in Tbilisi was on the agenda.
The Supreme council issued a statement expressing concern over
the collapse of the Armenian church. The statement says that during
Armenian Catholicos Karekin II's visit to Tbilisi last year, Georgian
President Mikheil Saakashvili and Georgian Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia
II assured they would take care of all the churches which are in
danger of collapse.
The Supreme Council called on the Georgian government to save the
Armenian church.
