Activists urge copper company to prove lawfulness of mine exploitation plan
17:54 - 15.01.12
The environmental activists who left for Teghut (Tavush region)
earlier today have held a protest outside the office of Valex Group, a
copper company expected to operate a mine on the territory.
They called for documented evidence proving the lawfulness of such
plan. The activists also asked the Government to respect its
commitment under the Aarhus Convention and revise the decision on
exploiting the mine.
"Respect the people's opinion if you want to do business," one of the
activists said through a microphone.
Local residents, protesting against the environmental campaign, also
joined the crowd.
The group later left the territory after talking to several
representatives of the company.
