ARMENIAN INTELLECTUALS TO STRUGGLE AGAINST SALE OF TUMANYAN'S TBILISI APARTMENT

YEREVAN, JANUARY 18, ARMENPRESS: A number of Armenian intellectuals,
headed by Chairman of Armenian Writers Union Levon Ananyan, will leave
for Tbilisi January 19 to familiarize themselves with the situation
over great poet Tumanyan's apartment on place, Levon Ananyan told
journalists January 18, Armenpress reports.
According to Mr. Ananyan, collaboratively with Armenian Culture
Minister Hasmik Poghosyan they have presented the situation to Armenian
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. "Our visit will help to put an end
to the incompatible data, the situation can be observed objectively,
after which the government will adopt a decision," Levon Ananyan said,
expressing hope that the issue will find a positive and reasonable
solution.
Chairman of Armenian Writers Union Levon Ananyan assured that their
primary goal is to prevent the possible deal, only after which to
think of purchasing and repair issues.
Tumanyan's granddaughter Irma Safrastbekyan clarified that the speech
is not about the Upper Room (Vernatun), but Tumanyan's apartment
(Davitashvili 18). The Armenian distinguished poet dwelled in that
apartment 1909-1923, and after Tumanyan's death his offsprings
continued living in it till 1950.
