Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli - APA. New President of the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Jean-Claude Mignon held a
press conference within the framework of the winter session.
He touched on the conflicts among some members of the Council of
Europe. Answering APA Strasbourg correspondent's question about the
further activity of the subcommittee on Nagorno Karabakh, Jean-Claude
Mignon said he does not believe the activity of the subcommittee will
achieve serious results.
"I do not like to circumambulate in such issues, I will express my
views openly. I have never believed that this committee will function
and achieve serious results. I consider that we must help the OSCE
Minsk Group dealing with the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh
conflict. The existence and activity of OSCE Minsk Group co-chaired by
the US, Russia and France are praiseworthy. I am sure the conflict will
be solved within the framework of the Minsk Group. Nagorno Karabakh
conflict must be solved. I hope both our Azerbaijani and Armenian
friends will demonstrate more common sense at the assembly. I think
if the parties continue acting in this manner, it will be impossible
to achieve the resolution of the conflict. Everyone must demonstrate
strong will. From my personal experience I can say that sometimes
strong position should be demonstrated in order to instil common
sense into any side. This will serve the interests of all," he said.
