The opposition of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will have an opposition,
Movement 88 Party. The leader of this party Eduard Aghabekyan announced
about it. Nagorno-Karabakh Republic already has an airport but it does
not have an opposition. Now this gap is filled in by Movement 88 Party.
Eduard Aghabekyan told the NKR contributor of the Armenian service
of Radio RFE/RL they decided to come to the political arena and bring
together people with similar views to relieve the dissatisfaction of
a considerable part of the public.
Usually a political opposition is formed when the representatives of
the opposition want so rather than the public. People whose views,
ideas, beliefs differ from those of the government are a political
opposition. As to which part of the society will follow the opposition
depends on the quality and reliability of the activities.
This is the natural emergence of opposition. Otherwise, it appears
as an artificial opposition, which will hardly foster political,
economic and social progress in Karabakh.
In its next report Freedom House may declare Karabakh to be a partly
free country but not non-free, as in the past two years, because of
the absence of an opposition. However, the important thing is what
Freedom House will write about Karabakh. It is important in terms of
the international reputation of the country. The most important thing
is one's development rather than to shut the eyes, ears and mouth of
the international organizations.
Karabakh needs an opposition, and the society benefits from the
competition of the government and the opposition, strengthening the
society's creative potential and increasing immunity.
On the other hand, the lasting absence of opposition and conviction
of dissidence with the slogan of unity has formed an environment
where the option of natural birth of opposition is ruled out, and
first it is necessary to break the fossilized fear of the society
of dissidence. In addition, the main fear is that dissidence will
destroy the country, and Azerbaijan will use that situation.
An opposition in Karabakh, even an artificially created one, may help
overcome this artificial fear and ensure political competition. There
is no need to fear, it will be the strength of Karabakh. It is simply
necessary to clarify the rules of the game in accordance with the
modern political rules.
If the emergence of opposition in Karabakh will lead to systemic
reforms, it can be welcomed, if this opposition is a dummy in the
shop window, it will merely free the ruling environment in Karabakh
from unnecessary noise. Meanwhile, this is something different from
the interests of citizens which must not be identified with interests
of the citizens of Karabakh.
On the other hand, in Karabakh they understand that it is meaningless
to keep the society and the state with outdated and fossilized slogans
and the conspiracy theory because they bore people and people start to
perceive these theories and slogans as a conspiracy. It is necessary
to rid of these moods in time before they become uncontrollable.
In this regard, the government and the political class of Karabakh
realize the challenges and know that it is necessary to enable the
society to breathe, think and express freely not to blast the destiny
of Karabakh.
