PARIS. - French lawyer Philippe Krikorian sent a message on the name
of behalf of Bar Association of Marseille to the French President
Nikolas Sarkozy asking to immediately promulgate the bill
criminalizing denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide
passed by the Senate on Monday. Opponents of the bill try to turn to
the Constitutional Council to cancel the bill.
The lawyer stated that the author of the bill, UMP MP Valerie Boyer
also has mentioned Krikorian on presenting her report and claimed he
stands at the roots of the bill. Hence, Krikoryan wished the law to be
called Boyer-Krikoryan. However, existence of the newly adopted bill
is under threat.
Krikoryan turns to the French President calling to promulgate the bill
immediately, passed by the French Parliament on Monday.
To note, the bill criminalizing denial of genocides has finally passed
by the Parliament on Monday. In order the bill to become a law,
President's promulgation is necessary to be put in a 15-day period. At
the same time, 60 MPs or Senators have the right to turn to the
Constitutional Council and argue the constituency of the bill before
the promulgation.
