33-OLD VAHE AVETYAN'S FUNERAL HELD IN ARMENIA'S CAPITAL

The funeral of military doctor Vahe Avetyan, who died after being
brutally beaten at the Harsnakar restaurant, has been held in Yerevan.
On June 17, Vahe Avetyan was mercilessly beaten by security guards
of the Harsnakar restaurant, owned by President of the Football
Federation of Armenia, MP of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia
(RAP) Ruben Hairapetyan. Despite doctors' efforts to save his life,
the 33-year-old surgeon, father of two children died after he was in
a coma for 12 days.
Thousands of people - Avetyan's relatives, friends and colleagues, as
well as intellectuals, political figures, civil society representatives
and numerous other citizens - attended the funeral.
Among the attendees were Honored Artist of Armenia Sos Sargsyan,
publicist Zory Balayan, MPs of the Heritage party, Armenian
Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun (ARF-D), Armenian National
Congress (ANC), high-ranking military officials.
After the funeral, some of the participants headed for the Prosecutor
General's Office of Armenia.
Tuesday and Wednesday are days of silence.
On Thursday, an action of protest is to be held in front of the
Armenian presidential residence.
