Hundreds of protesters marched today from the National Assembly
building to the office of the prosecutor general demanding fair
investigation of the tragic incident claiming the life of military
doctor Vahe Avetyan.
In front of the National Assembly they were joined by the MPs of the
Armenian National Congress. Head of the ANC's faction Levon Zurabyan
disappointed activists saying no extraordinary sitting will be
convened on the issue due to lack of votes. Member of Heritage party
Davit Sanasaryan said the number of MPs of four factions - ANC, ARF-D,
PAP and Heritage - exceeds 44 making it possible to gather enough
votes (the total number of MPs of the mentioned factions is
54-Tert.am).
Zurabyan stated that the four factions, except Republican party and
Rule of Law, signed a joint statement initiating parliamentary
hearings on the issue. The same factions have also set up a special
commission to meet with the law enforcement leadership and be actively
engaged in the examination of the case.
