The Constitution of Armenia has turned into an idle and declarative
document because of the authorities' will, a member of the Armenian
parliament from the opposition Armenian National Congress, Aram
Manukyan, told ArmInfo correspondent
He said that the constitutional norms, which provide fulfillment of
human rights and freedoms, and independence of legal power, have not
been functioning in the country. "This is because the authorities put
their will above the Constitution. In fact, the country has been
living not in line with the constitutional norms, but according to the
will of the authorities", - he said.
He also emphasized that constitutional reforms of 2003 have not
justified themselves. "As a result of those reforms, the Constitution
lost its specification and gained populist tunes", - he said. To
note, Constitution Day is celebrated in Armenia on 5 July.
