President Serzh Sargsyan issued a congratulatory address on the
occasion of the Constitution Day of the Republic of Armenia. The
message reads, in part:
`Dear compatriots,
I congratulate you on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
July 5 is one of the most important holidays of our new statehood,
with which we demonstrate our devotion to the values and ideals
incorporated in the Basic Law of the Republic of Armenia.
The main mission of our Constitution is to ensure public concord,
which is impossible to reach without the rule of law and unconditioned
respect for the constitutional rights. We should confess that we have
problems. It's obvious that the democratic values proclaimed by the
Constitution, including the equality of everyone before law
irrespective of any features, should lay in the basis of the
settlement of conflictions existing in our society and state. .
Only through productive cooperation with the civil society can the
state become truly democratic and build a civilized system, where the
freedom and public order will be fully balanced.
All of us, all layers of society are responsible for public concord,
and it is the duty of all of us to eliminate the discrepancy between
the proclaimed values and the reality. The Constitution - its letter
and spirit - is the most reliable pillar on this path
I once again congratulate all of us, being confident that our
Constitution will still serve many generations to come, remaining the
most authoritative document regulating the public, political and
social life.'
