The Secretary General of the OSCE, Lamberto Zannier, told a meeting
with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov that the status
quo of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is unacceptable, 1news.az reports.
The OSCE chief expressed concerns over incidents on the
Azerbaijani-Armenian line of contact. He believes that the sides
need to avoid use of force. Zannier wants expansion of the monitoring
mission on the contact line and use of the mechanism to investigate
violations.
Azerbaijan hopes that the OSCE will encourage progress in settling
the conflict, Mammadyarov said. No breakthroughs have been seen in
the conflict, which has been continuing for 20 years. The foreign
minister believes that it is more important to end the occupation of
Azerbaijani territories than monitor incidents.
