Vasili Sigarev participates in the 9th Golden Apricot Film Festival
with the film "Living." Russian dramatist, scriptwriter and director
Vasili Sigarev enjoys great fame both in Russia and Europe. He has
received a number of prizes in the spheres of literature and theatre.
In 2009 he shot his first film - The Wolfy - which raised great noise
in Russia. Many criticized Sigarev's dark and pessimistic perception
of life.
Later, however, The Wolfy received a great number of prizes. It won
the main prize at Kinotavr in 2009, as well as the Grigori Gorin
Prize for Best Script and the award for Best Actress (Yana Troyanova).
Sigarev's second film - Living - also faced severe criticism of most
Russian cinematographers, but was received with open arms at different
film festivals of the world. Just a few months ago the film "Living"
received key prizes at Kinotavr.
Life is more than the mode of existence of protein bodies. A person
can feel, suffer, love and live out the destiny, even when this means
losing the most precious: those he loves. Following the lives of the
film's characters, we watch as fate takes their loved ones swiftly and
brutally, removing any reason to live, even the desire to stay alive.
The film's characters do not surrender: they stand up in defiance,
declare war on fate, struggling to the limits of human endurance and
beyond. They reach their own victories.
