ARMENIAN CONVICTS TRANSFERRED TO IRAN

YEREVAN.- Armenian Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan decided to
transfer to Iranian authorities 12 convicts, citizens of the Islamic
Republic, sentenced in Armenia.
All of them expressed wish to serve the remaining term at home.
Ten convicts, eleven men and a woman, were transferred to the Iranian
side on July 12, Justice Ministry told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
In 2006 Armenia and Iran signed an agreement on judicial cooperation
on civil and criminal cases as well as an extradition agreement.
Currently, negotiations are underway on signing of an agreement
regulating the issues of prisoners' extradition.
The citizens sent to Iran from Armenia were charged with smuggling,
drug trafficking.
