No change will happen in the matter of the Armenian genocide
recognition before and after 24 April 2015, historian, director of
the Centre for Armenian Studies under Michigan University (USA),
Ara Sanjian, said in Yerevan today. "The Armenian genocide may be
recognized only after economic development of Armenia and if Armenia
represents something at least potentially. Of course, over settlement
of any conflict, the party is given preference which is more beneficial
for the world force centres. Turkey uses the tactic of permanent
blackmail and threats the USA to annul this or that contract. This
gives Turkey an opportunity to avoid recognition of the genocide
and repatriation linked with it", - he said and added that in this
context the problem of the Armenian genocide recognition is a political
one and its transferring to the historical field will lead it to the
deadlock. He also added that Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu
purposefully insists on setting up of a commission of historians so
that to delay recognition of the Armenian genocide and finally to
freeze it. "There are many people among Turkish intelligentsia which
have recognized the fact of the Armenian genocide, but are scared to
do harm to their relatives living in Turkey or to lose financing. Many
people simply say this is a problem of lobbyists and the historians
have to study this fact but not to recognize or reject it", - he
said. He also emphasized that a propaganda group should be set up
for the effective and immediate reaction at propaganda of Turkey and
Azerbaijan. He said that official Baku has been actively using similar
groups via the Internet. However, Azerbaijani propaganda does not have
a serious scientific basis. For this reason, scientific magazines do
not practically publish articles of Azerbaijani historians.
