ISRAEL WARNS ITS CITIZENS AGAINST VISITING BREAKAWAY AZERI REGION

The Israeli ambassador to Azerbaijan has said that his country has
warned its citizens against visiting Azerbaijan's breakaway Nagornyy
Karabakh region which came under Armenia's military control after 1994,
Baku-based APA news agency reported on 16 July.
Michael Lotem said this commenting on recent media reports about a
visit by a group of Israeli citizens to Nagornyy Karabakh.
"Those persons do not reflect the Israeli government's position. The
Israeli Foreign Ministry's website has posted a statement warning
Israeli citizens against visiting the Nagornyy Karabakh region. Those
persons were aware of the warning," Lotem was quoted as saying.
On 13 July, Azerbaijani private Bizim Yol newspaper website quoted
Israeli Yedioth Ahronoth paper as saying that Azerbaijan had sent a
note of protest to the Israeli embassy regarding Israeli citizens'
visit to Karabakh. Azerbaijan had also demanded an explanation from
the Magma Challenge tour agency which had organized the visit, the
report said.
