Director of the Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander
Iskandaryan says the presidential elections in Artsakh were the most
interesting from the point of view of political results. According to
him, the struggle was rather competitive, Vitaly Balasanyan succeeded
in forming opposition.
The opposition candidate has received a great number of votes and an
opposition faction may possibly be formed in the National Assembly,
Iskandaryan said, taking into consideration that he was supported by
a number of MPs.
According to the political scientist, the probability of establishment
of an opposition faction at the NKR Parliament is the greatest
political achievement of the past elections. Iskandaryan believes
this will bring about changes on the political map of Karabakh.
Director of the Caucasus Institute noted also that the presidential
elections were largely covered by foreign media. He called special
attention to the statement of the High Representative of the European
Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in which she said "the
EU does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework in which
the elections were held." The statement does not say the EU does not
recognize he elections, and this is the first time such a statement
was made.
