Nagorno-Karabakh settlement does not depend on election: diplomat
MOSCOW July 20
Russia sees no direct connection between the recent presidential
election in the self-proclaimed republic of Nagorno-Karabakh and the
process of a peaceful settlement of the conflict, Russian Foreign
Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.
"Moscow does not believe that the results of a peace process in
Nagorno-Karabakh could depend on the holding of elections there," he
stressed. The diplomat noted that the official position of three
co-chairmen of the OSCE Minsk Group (the United States, France and
Russia) on the Thursday election in Nagorno-Karabakh will be posted on
the official website of the OSCE on Friday.
Lukashevich marked that "like all other countries" Moscow does not
recognize the mostly Armenian populated Azerbaijani enclave of
Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent state,
