Armavia airline has stated about its readiness to open the second
weekly flight to Syria with the prices of tickets being almost free,
press service of the airline told Tert.am.
The press service official said the airline is negotiating with the
government and Diaspora Ministry over getting corresponding assistance
to sharply decrease the ticket price.
The airline official also said in case of corresponding assistance
the prices for tickets will be almost free like it was done during
developments in Lebanon few years ago.
Recently a wave of discontent has been raised against Armavia for
resuming Yerevan-Aleppo-Yerevan flights in July with double price.
Currently the national carrier is implementing one flight a week,
while the demand is obviously bigger. Syrian airlines which too
implements Aleppo-Yerevan-Aleppo flights has stated that it has sold
its tickets till September.
A group of activists conducted a protest rally in front of central
office of Armavia on Wednesday against the raise in ticket's prices
of Aleppo-Yerevan, Yerevan-Aleppo flights. Nvard Manasyan, one of the
protestors, stated that Armavia cannot be called a national carrier as
it is making an anti-national step on the crucial moment for Armenians.
Armenian-populated Syrian town of Aleppo is in the target of clashes
between the Syrian pro-government forces and rebels for already few
days. According to some information, the rebels have seized control
over a part of the town.
Speaking to Tert.am, representatives of the Armenian community
stated that the town has been deserted. People are trying not to
leave their houses.
The pro-government forces are seen in the town searching for the
hiding places of rebels to eliminate them. Though the clashes take
place far from Armenian districts, gun shots and bomb explosions are
being heard there.
