1400 ANNIVERSARY OF ANANIA SHIARAKATSI TO BE CELEBRATED SINCE SEPTEMBER

YEREVAN, JULY 26, ARMENPRESS: UNESCO has included 1400 anniversary
of Armenian greatest medieval scholar, founder of the exact sciences
and natural sciences Anania Shirakatsi in its celebration list.
Armenian astronomical company co- chair Areg Mikayelyan stated at
the briefing with the journalists on July 26 , they have applied to
UNESCO in order to add this holiday in its list.
The range of events dedicated to 1400 anniversary Anania Shirakatsi
starts from September. Summer school in Byurakan Observatory due to
launch this fall is also included in the tide of the scheduled events.
Over 80 students, astrologers from 18 countries are going to
participate in the events.
Armenian mathematician, astronomer and geographer Anania Shirakatsi
was born in 612 AD. He is one of the greatest Armenian scientists of
medieval century, whose scientific heritage had a tangible impact for
the further development of Armenian natural sciences. The scientist
died in 685.
Mesrop Mashtots' 1650 and Sayat-Nova's 300 anniversaries were also
included in the list of anniversaries of prominent persons.
