CATTLE BREEDING SECTOR TO FACE 4-5% GROWTH IN 2012- AGRICULTURAL MINISTRY

YEREVAN, July 26./ ARKA/. Cattle breeding sector is expected to post
4-5% growth at the year's out, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan
told journalists Thursday.
He said according to the National Statistical Service of Armenia,
the sector grew by 2% within the first 6 months.
The Minister highlighted that Armenia is ranked the first among CIS
member states in the rates of increasing livestock over 15 years.
Over the recent 15 years the cattle increased by 28.3 thousand heads,
and herd of sheep and goats- by 58.9 thousand.
"These numbers are quite serious, and this tendency will continue
due to the programs such as artificial insemination program," the
Minister added.
According to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, gross
production of cattle sector was 369.2 billion drams in 2011.
In 2011 there were 571 357 heads of cattle in Armenia. According
to the National Statistical Service of Armenia, gross production
in agriculture was 203.6 billion drams within the first 6 month of
2012, up by 8.1% from the same period a year earlier. ($1 - 409.26
drams).
